Stadium Guide - Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas

Facts

  • Built: 1972

  • Capacity: 74,616

  • Record attendance: 82,094 (Chiefs v Oakland Raiders)

Acoustically, this is probably the best stadium at the World Cup.

The ground is the 25th largest in the US, and the fourth-largest in the NFL. Home to the Kansas City Chiefs, it’s been the home of some crazy records over the years, helped by its design. This is a stadium that is born to make noise.

The incline of the top upper level is so steep that NFL rules would now have banned it from being constructed in the first place.

It’ll host six games at the World Cup - Argentina v Algeria, Ecuador v Curaçao, Tunisia v Netherlands, Algeria v Austria plus a Round of 32 match and a Quarter-final.

The world records

  • The bowl shape and high stands contribute to acoustic perfection and the design reflects sound down onto the field. The World Record sound was set here in 2014, in fact. The crowd managed 142.2 decibels, louder than a jet engine.

  • In 2023 they hosted the “world’s largest tailgate” event, streamed live online from outside of the stadium.

  • They also hit the NFL record of five consecutive AFC Championship games, from 2018 to 2022.

Our verdict:

We love it. A stand that’s essentially forbidden, a cool shape and incredible acoustics. This could go down as one of the coolest venues at the World Cup. It’s almost a shame it’s not being used more.
